City Hall in Rzeszów - competition

The main design goal was to place the new Municipal Auditorium building in the context of the historical heritage of Rzeszow, both in urban and architectural terms. Our idea was to create elevations that refer to the neighboring buildings, translating the historical language of expression into contemporary materials and technological solutions. We aimed for the new massing to reflect not only the neighboring historical buildings, but also to reinterpret their character in a modern way. The starting point was the characteristic features of the Rzeszow market, such as two-story townhouses with an attic, a geometric repetitive arrangement of windows, with a tendency to enlarge window openings on the first floor, and a characteristic beige-brick color scheme. In response, we proposed a massing divided into a base and a development, with clear lines and proportions alluding to local architecture. The elevations have a simple, repetitive arrangement of windows. We designed the glazing in a vertical arrangement, and expanded the division of windows in the first floor to a double module. The inter-story and crowning cornice has a triangular geometry, extending upward. The color scheme also draws from local traditions and is kept in a sand-beige range. Thus, we have a facade of sand-colored precast concrete and a brick-burgundy interior.
